About The Gallery
The latrobe Fine Art Gallery is situated in the main street of Latrobe, 500m from the Mersey River. Latrobe is located in a picturesque area of North West Tasmania known as the Platypus capital of the world.
The original house and hall were built in 1865. The building was known as Nathans’ Emporium and residence, then Mistletoe Lodge – United Order of Druids, in 1887 a photographic studio, a public hall (Victoria Hall), a bank, a post office and a music hall during its lifetime.
The building has played a large part in the history of the town of Latrobe which was laid out in 1856 with building commencing 1858.
It has been wonderful that over the time that Beverley has owned the building several previous owners have visited and asked if she has seen one of the three resident ghosts and to see how the place has changed.
Now the Latrobe Fine Art Gallery has been beautifully restored since resident artist and new owner Beverley Skurulis moved here from the North West of Western Australia.
We are proud to be a part of more history in the making and keeping a local landmark very much alive.
